Six people have died in a helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River, Reuters reports. Three children are among the dead.
The crash took place on Thursday (April 10).
The New York Post reported that the helicopter included the president and CEO of Siemens Spain, Agustin Escobar, his wife and three children.
The AFP news agency reported that two of the injured were initially taken to hospital but later died.
New York Mayor Eric Adams said that six people had been pulled from the water. Most of the dead were Spanish.
US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences over the incident.
He said, “It seems that the six people on board, including the pilot, two adults and three children, are no longer with us. The footage of the accident is horrific.”
Trump wrote on his social media platform The Truth, “May God bless the families and friends of the victims.”
According to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the Bell 206 helicopter, operated by New York Helicopter Tours, took off from a city helipad around 3 p.m. and flew north over the Hudson River.
Witnesses said they saw the helicopter speeding. It crashed into the water with a loud thud. The rear of the helicopter remained above the river for a short time after it hit. Some say the helicopter broke up in midair, then fell into the Hudson River.
