The BBC reported that the plane was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. The military helicopter was carrying three US soldiers.
Earlier Wednesday night, a PSA Airlines regional jet collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport. A video circulating on social media shows the plane and helicopter colliding in mid-air over the Potomac River.
Rescue efforts began immediately after the plane crash, with multiple helicopters from the US Park Police, DC Metropolitan Police, and US military seen circling the scene.
Airport authorities said Wednesday night that emergency workers were involved in rescue operations after the accident. All flights from the airport have been suspended.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it was gathering more information about the accident.
