18 killed in stampede at New Delhi station

18 people, including women and children, died in a stampede at the New Delhi railway station in India. Several others were injured. Of these, 11 women and 4 children died.

Indian media NDTV reported this news in a report on Sunday (February 16).
The report said that the passengers were waiting to go to the Kumbh Mela. 18 people died in a stampede while boarding the train after the train arrived late.

Emergency security personnel quickly reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital. Three died while undergoing treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident. He wrote on a social post, ‘This incident at the New Delhi railway station is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident. The administration is with all the people affected by this incident.’

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the situation at the railway station is under control. Additional security forces have been deployed there.

Earlier on Saturday, 10 devotees were killed when a bus ran over them while they were going to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Another 19 people were injured in the accident. The accident took place when a Bolero car collided with a bus in the Meja area of ​​the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway.
